I’m Ania, a maternity photographer in Chichester. I photograph maternity photoshoots outdoors — by the beach huts and dunes at West Wittering, in the woods, in a meadow at the end of the day — across Chichester, West Sussex and Hampshire.

My maternity photoshoots are relaxed and gently guided. You don’t need to know how to pose. I show you where to stand and what to do with your hands, and the rest is simply you, your bump and whoever you bring along. Prices start at £295.

A relaxed maternity photoshoot, not a performance

Most women tell me they don’t feel photogenic, especially at thirty-odd weeks. That’s normal, and it’s my job to sort out, not yours. I guide you into positions that flatter your shape and feel comfortable, and we stop whenever you need to sit down.

Partners and older children are welcome, and they often end up in my favourite photos: a hand resting on the bump, a big sister listening for kicks, the two of you walking along the shoreline.

When to book your maternity photoshoot

The photoshoot itself works best between 28 and 34 weeks. Your bump is round and clearly visible, and you are usually still comfortable walking and standing for an hour or so.

Book early — soon after your first scan is ideal. Spring, September and December are always busy, because that is when lots of babies arrive. Expecting twins? We plan a little earlier, so mention it when you get in touch.

How a maternity photoshoot works

Before the photoshoot

We choose a date and a location together. I send you a guide on how to prepare and what to wear, and I am happy to look at outfit options beforehand. A £100 retainer secures your date.

On the day

We meet at the location, usually about an hour before sunset, when the light is soft and warm. Allow up to an hour and a half. We start slowly with a few simple photos while you settle in, then walk and explore. There is plenty of time for an outfit change, a rest and a drink of water.

After the photoshoot

You see your photos in a private online gallery and choose your favourites. You pick your package then, not before, so you are never guessing. I edit the photos you choose and deliver them as high-resolution digital files.

What to wear for maternity photos

Long, flowing dresses move beautifully in the wind on the beach, and fitted shapes show off your bump. Soft, light colours suit outdoor locations: cream, white, dusty blue, blush and sage.

Bring a second outfit if you would like some variety, and a cardigan for between photos, because the coast can be cool even in summer. If your partner and children are joining, keep their clothes in the same soft tones. Once you book, I send you a full guide.

Maternity photoshoot prices

Every maternity photoshoot includes up to an hour and a half at an outdoor location of your choice, gentle guidance throughout and professional editing. You choose your package after you have seen your photos.

• Basic — £295: 5 edited high-resolution digital photos
• Premium — £495: 10 edited high-resolution digital photos
• Complete — £595: the full gallery, usually 20+ edited photos, plus black and white versions where they suit

A £100 retainer books your date and comes off the total. It is non-refundable, but if the weather turns or you are unwell, we move the date and your retainer moves with it.

Many parents book both. Your maternity photoshoot is a chance to get to know me before I come to your home to photograph your baby, so by then I am a familiar face. Newborn photoshoots at home are £350, all-inclusive.
