Some photo sessions stay with me long after the last image is edited — and this one is definitely one of them.
This session was a 21st birthday gift from parents to their daughter, E, and from the very beginning it felt incredibly thoughtful and personal. Rather than something temporary, they chose to give her an experience — time, attention, and photographs that would mark a meaningful moment in her life.
E is a talented musician and a genuinely lovely young woman, and the session reflected that perfectly: calm, creative, expressive, and quietly confident.
A Relaxed Portrait Session in Chichester
The photoshoot took place in Chichester, West Sussex, using the beautiful surroundings of the Cathedral grounds and nearby gardens. It’s a location I love for portrait sessions — full of texture, greenery, historic stone, and soft natural light that changes beautifully as you move through the space.
We kept the atmosphere relaxed and unhurried. No pressure, no stiff posing — just gentle guidance, conversation, and space for E to be herself. That’s always where the most honest portraits come from.
Celebrating Creativity and Personality
Because music is such a big part of E’s life, we subtly wove that into the session. One of my favourite moments — and a little behind-the-scenes insight — was when she lay down on sheets of music. That image wasn’t about perfection; it was about process, creativity, and who she is at this stage in her life.

What makes this session even more special, looking back, is the foreshadowing I couldn’t have predicted at the time. In the years that followed, I had the privilege of photographing E’s engagement session and later her wedding.
Watching someone grow through different chapters of their life — and being invited to document those milestones — is one of the greatest honours of my work as a photographer.
